God's Will Be Done:Does It Matter How?
Having finally yielded to God's will, and not our own, does it really matter how God accomplishes His will? We pray "Father, your will be done"; in our life, in our child's life, in our finances or health. But do we care by what means He will use to grant us our hearts desire? Yes, we have settled it that we desire His will, and we believe His will will be done, His promises fulfilled. Yet, we continue to pray, becoming more and more anxious and confused. Having begun in the spirit of faith and rest, we now move into unbelief and confusion. Frequently, our unbelief is rooted in the fact that we do not believe God will do His will in the way we want Him to. We want His will, but His will done our way. We have predetermined what His will will look like, and now our prayers are focused on telling Him how to do it. Our imaginations, desires, or understanding all attempt to dictate to Almighty God the manner and time in which He should work. Our struggle is not that His will be done, but that we really do not trust His love and wisdom. I was praying about a particular situation over which I had struggled for years. Finally I prayed "Amen, Lord, your will be done". Immediately He spoke, "Does it matter how I do my will?". Honestly, I replied, "Yes, Lord, it does matter to me. I want it done this way ( and I spelt it out to Him), and I don't want such and such to happen." We have to own where we are to leave where we are. I left where I was, as I saw how many hours I had spent pleading with God to do His will my way. What moved me was a deeper revelation that His will is simply His love. I can trust His love to accomplish the outcome His way.
